How to Reach Your New Year’s Resolutions
This New Year, lots of us are going to be making resolutions and many of them will be health related, whether it’s from eating more healthily to being more active studies have suggested that only 8% of us will stick with them. To try and change this percentage here is my step by step guide to succeeding with your New Year Resolutions.
1: Create Realistic Goals: We’ve all heard the saying ‘trying to run before you can walk’ and that’s never truer than with resolutions. It’s important to know your body’s limits and speak with experts that can help you develop realistic health and fitness goals.
2: Have a Plan: “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ― Benjamin Franklin. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to lose 3 pounds or 30 – you need a plan. Make sure that you give yourself smaller goals to help achieve the overall goal; this will make it a lot more manageable.
3: Measure Your Progress: “I am a slow walker, but I never walk back.” ― Abraham Lincoln. How do you know if you’re reaching your goal if you don’t regularly measure it? If you’re trying to lose weight, weigh yourself on a regular basis and keep a food journal. If improving fitness is your goal, invest in a heart rate monitor to see how hard you are pushing yourself in workouts. Measurements are the key to success because they hold you accountable.
4: Don’t Give Up: “Give up trying to make me give up” ― Masashi Kishimoto. Most of us will fail at our New Year’s resolutions after a minor setback. Everyone will have a setback, whether it’s an injury or deviating from your meal plan, but the key is to use it as a learning experience. Try and find or create a supportive team to motivate you and keep you on the right track.
5: Reward Yourself: “Persistence and determination are always rewarded.” ― Christine Rice. Make sure you celebrate all your achievements, no matter how big, this will keep you motivated and build up your confidence.
