Fit for the ski season?

The ski season is upon us and with improvement in snowfall and ski conditions every week, here is my guide for getting fit for the ski season and how to avoid injuries when on the slopes.

Whether you’re new to skiing or a competent skier/ snowboarder it’s important to build up your fitness levels. Skiing requires a high level of fitness at any level and fatigue is one of the most common causes of injury and most of these injuries happen in the afternoon when muscles are fatiguing. When it comes to injuries, the 3rd day has the highest incidence of injuries. I believe this is largely due to that fact that by day 3 you are feeling confident on the slopes again, however your muscles are now at a high level of fatigue due to the fact they are not yet accustomed to the high usage that comes with skiing. 

You can reduce the chance of fatigue related injuries by performing an exercise programme before your holiday. Skiing involves a combination of skills, including strength, endurance, co-ordination and mobility. All of which our personal trainers at Core Wellness Centres combine into their workouts and they will certainly put you through your paces.

You will want to make sure you are in the best possible shape for you ski trip and this involves sorting any niggles or aches that may be affecting you. This is where our Chiropractors and Sports Massage Therapists are able to help you, making sure you get the most from your ski holiday.
